What is Flyball.

What is Flyball?
Flyball originated in the United States in the early 1970's and was introduced to the United Kingdom in the early 1990's.

A Flyball team is made up of 4 to 6 dogs, but only 4 race at any one time. They run a relay race over four equally spaced hurdles (jumps) in a lane towards a box which delivers a ball. The dog takes the ball back over the jumps, the next dog does the same thing, continuing until all four dogs have taken part. In a competion two lanes are set up with coloured racing lights and electronic timing. This enables teams to race against each other fairly. The race team times are measured down to 1000 th of a second! The aim of course is to have the fastest time. Errors made by dogs or handlers are flagged up by race lights, for instance a red light means the dog has to run again at the end of the race adding to the teams final time and maybe loosing the race.

All arenas, racing and judging are set to the British Flyball Association rules.

You can enjoy flyball as a fun ativity at training sessions with a local flyball club or be more serious and take part in competitions locally and further afield.
